Reducing household allergens is a MUST in my house! My husband is super allergic to cats and has asthma plus I also have a slight allergy to cats. Oh and we have a cat. Definitely not the smartest decision, but we both grew up with pets in the home so we just figured we would figure out ways to make it work.
Now I do wanna say my husband is on a prescribed allergy medication (between the allergies and asthma he needs it) but I no longer have to take allergy meds everyday like I was for so long! Today I share my products and some useful tips that I feel have helped reduce our allergy symptoms.
I mainly just use these two different products to keep our house less allergy filled and they make a huge difference! If I am not consistently cleaning with these products I definitely start to feel the symptoms coming on. The first is the Allersearch ADMS spray. Although the most tedious of the two, it is definitely the most helpful. Basically you just spray this stuff all over all of your soft surfaces, let dry, and vacuum it up! This means couches, mattresses, pillows, soft chairs, carpets, are all game. The good news is you only have to use this every 30 days. This company also sells a laundry detergent that I would love to try, will be sure to update here if I do!
For my hard surfaces I like to use this allergen version of Pledge. It has all the lovely polishing and dusting benefits of regular pledge with the allergy relief that I am looking for. There really isn’t much to say here other than this ish works!
Give your pets a bath every week with a dander reducing shampoo! So this may be obvious if you have a dog, but cats are great for baths too! It can drastically help in reducing allergens as well as just make them super soft. We are lucky that our cat actually likes water, but we have also been bathing him since we first got him so he is used to it by now!
In addition to bathing him we also try to brush him a few times a week. You don’t want to brush your pet too often though and never brush when your pet has wet hair! This is terrible for their coat and can really irritate your furry friend!
I hope you found this helpful and I hope these products can help all of my fellow allergy sufferers out there! If you have any other products that help with allergies that you have used PLEASE let me know in the comments below. I would love to try out anything else that could help us live more comfortably 🙂
