It is safe to say that since Sterling (our silver bengal kitten) entered our home our lives have been flipped upside down. He is every bit as crazy as a kitten should be times 100. That comes with the breed of course, and I knew this going in, and totally thought I was prepared, but boy was I wrong. Now don’t get me wrong, he sleeps a ton, is cuter than sin, and loves to play on his own, yet he is the biggest spaz of a cat I have ever met–and I absolutely love it!
Bringing Him Home
We arrived at our breeder’s home on a crisp Saturday morning and were greeted with the news from her husband that Sterling was currently inside sitting on her head! Little did we know we were in for a world much crazier than simple head sitting! Anyways, we walked into their home and got to see our little guy for the first time, and boy was he little. He weighed less than two pounds when we brought him home which is tiny for a three month kitten, especially bengals who are known to be larger.
After a short period time of with the breeder, we put Sterling in his carrier and headed home, where he meowed the entire ride. Poor little guy could barely even meow anymore by the time we finally settled at home with him, which if you watch the vlog at the end of this post, you can hear his little raspy half-meow a few times.
Once home, Sterling took to himself to start exploring! He has never been afraid to go up on furniture, but is often afraid to jump down and will howl until you either help him down, or show him the way he could jump down. He loves to lay on me, in fact that is where you will normally find him, and often times it is in the silliest of positions.
To our misfortune, he is still only eating wet food, so we are still feeding him three times daily, but leave dry food out all the time. His teeth are absolutely tiny though, so we are hoping when his teeth are stronger he will muster up the courage to eat his dry food. We had some problems with the litter box when we first brought him home, but after about of week of trial and error (which included adding a second litter box to our home) Sterling has been going like a champ ever since!
Now more often than not, Sterling would rather attack a pen, hair tie, sock, exposed cord, Christmas ornament, or hand/foot, but we try our best to keep him entertained with his toys. Two of his favorites are the chase toys I have pictured below. He often won’t go up and play with them unless we initiate the movement of the mouse/light up ball, but once we do he will easily play for 10-15 minutes all on his own.
Since we brought Sterling home, I purchased like a million new toys to try and keep him occupied because he is such a hyper little furball. He loves his new tunnel, cat tree, and all the feather toys…however he really doesn’t love his playmat or the automatic laser pointer. Both of these toys make too much noise for him, so he usually leaves them alone.
Those are just a few short little snippets of our little kitten so far! If you’d like to see even more of Sterling, be sure to check out the video above. Our adventures with Sterling are just beginning, and can’t wait to see where they take us. 🙂
