I have struggled my entire life with keeping my pearly whites to be, well, even remotely white. I feel like my teeth have been yellow, yellow, yellow for as long as I can remember. I was so embarrassed by them that I would even edit all my photos so that my teeth were whiter–until recently.
I have FINALLY found a routine that not only keeps my teeth white, but is SUPER easy to keep on top of. Because let’s be real–I am pretty lazy. But even I have had no problem maintaining this simple routine, and my teeth are whiter for it! Now they aren’t like blindingly, perfectly, sparkly white. But for me, they are the whitest they have ever been, and they just seem to be getting whiter everyday.
1. Morning Coconut Oil Rinse
A lot of people praise the benefits of oil pulling, and you can officially add me to that list! I just simply take about a spoonful of coconut oil, place it in my mouth, and rinse it around for about 10-15 minutes. I usually do this first thing in the morning as I start my coffee and make breakfast. This is a double win for me because I do not love the taste of the coconut oil, so once I am done, I get to eat some food and drink some coffee to rid of that taste! All while whitening my teeth.
Since oil pulling, I have seen a difference not only in the brightness of my teeth, my gums are healthier too. Another struggle of my life was always sensitive and inflamed gums, as my dentist visits never ceased to remind me. At my last visit though my hygienist and I were both shocked when she said to me that my gums were healthier and pinker (as opposed to red) than ever! She asked if I had changed anything, and this was the only change I had made in dental routine.The more benefits the better!
2. A Great Toothbrush and A Great Toothpaste
I used a basic toothbrush and a basic toothpaste for most of my life. I would just use whatever I got at the dentist, afterall, it was from the dentist so it HAD to be good! Well, about a year ago I invested in a Phillips Sonicare toothbrush, and I can say for certain I will forever be an electronic toothbrush user. This thing just seems to fling all of the gunk away, and leave my teeth feeling cleaner than any other brush I have ever used.
The Colgate optic white toothpaste is the only toothpaste I have ever used that whitens my teeth, and doesn’t leave them super sensitive as a result. It has hydrogen peroxide in it to help whiten, which made it taste a little strange at first, but once I got used to it, I pretty much forgot that it tasted different than toothpastes I had used in the past. After using for about a week, I really noticed a difference in the whiteness of my teeth, just like the box promises!
3. White Strips Once a Week
Now I a m pretty sure everyone has heard of how well Crest white strips work, and they certainly aren’t cheap, but they are worth the money to me. I use them about once a week to keep my smile a little extra white and fresh. It’ takes only 30 minutes, once a week, and it is just that simple! If I have a special occasion coming up I may use a little more frequently, but I avoid overuse as they can make my teeth really really sensitive if I do so.
And that’s all I do! I love how simple, manageable, and effective it is for me to (finally) keep my teeth looking white and bright. Goodnight yellow, hello white!
